We are as prepared as we can manage as an older couple. No debts, home free and clear, not a great nest egg, but we adjust our travel and purchases accordingly. We also have a grubstake of food to last months if things get rough and the stores empty. Note that nothing like store runs and supply chains problems are permanent, and one can't store enough food to last years. I also have an alternative to my car if fuel gets to high or there are outages. I have 2 bikes - one I have had since 1973, and one e-bike I bought last year. I can travel 30 miles with pedal assist level 1, and 20 miles on throttle alone. Round trip to town and the grocery store is 15 miles. Everyone should do what works for their situation, and remember if you are anywhere near rivers and lakes, you can fish.

Nobody is prepared for complete famine. In really bad situations people can create SOGs: self organizing collectives, which are temporary situational groups of people coming together for a specific purpose such as mutual defense, support, sharing resources. It can be made up of neighbors, churches, friends and extended families. Another interesting Youtube channel I have watched often is called Prepper Princess. https://www.youtube.com/@PrepperPrincess She shows how to be truly frugal and put away a little money on tight budgets. She also has a book on Amazon. Of course, each person must take any advice and modify it to their own needs and abilities. There is so much oil on this planet, that it would take centuries to run out. I also read recently that they think that oil is made in the ground on a much, much faster time scale than originally thought, and in a different manner than we thought. (It’s a chemical reaction.) Of course, most of that research got memory holed but if you look around you’ll find some echoes here and there.
Most of our problems in the West are that we have set up nanny states that don’t govern but rather regulate us all into the Stone Age.
The Age of Oil is over …we are in the Age of Natural Gas. Natural gas is made in my stomach and in trash dumps and in many places…although the vast majority of what we burn is fossil fuel. Anyone worried about energy over the long term is clueless and is stuck in pre-fracking 2008. Obviously there will be supply shocks from hurricanes and winter storms and wars but they will be fixed relatively quickly. Putin doubted the American fracking industry and lost his asinine war…never underestimate your enemy!
You are correct there is oil to last a long long time, however its the engery cost of extraction which is the issue. Modern society's like American needs about an energy return of one barrel of oil to produce 20 barrel ie 5% they passed that mark in 1992 and have been in decline ever since, Europe needs about 1 to about 13 barrels about 8% return Europe passed that about 2002. The surplus energy return on energy invested is the key, look at shale oil or tar sand the return is at best 1 to 5 probably 1 to 3 not leaving much excess to power the economy. Overall worldwide we are probably at the 13% mark 1 to 8 barrels and the rate of cost is increasing fast.
If I’m wrong, that there isn’t a lot of oil that is being created all the time, you better hope they come up with safe portable fission generators- or you and your children better learn to like living as your ancestors did a thousand years ago, complete with starvation and plague. The current “green” energy is a scam- a house of cards.
But I guarantee you, that the sycophants will be found out like they always are, and that all this fear mongering is likely for naught. They just want y’all so afraid you open up your wallets willingly.
Again it's not the physical amount or quantity of oil it's the, engery cost of extraction. Of course I live with deluded dreams of hopium that there will be some kind of technological saving grace but that's only a coping mechanism. I'm well aware that I and my children will face extreme challenges and economic woe....however humans have only had it soft with fossil fuels for less than 300 years. Times will be tough but life will continue. (Praying we sort out the cooling ponds of the fission shit we have already produced) As Tim the author of the article says in many of his essays and books "non renewable, renewable energy harvesting technologies" will not power an industrial society. I'm not afraid and neither should anyone else be, change is constant and life will continue, humans are built for struggle and hardship. The sociopathic elites have always preyed on the common folk but the more people who turn away and don't comply reduces there power to control. Some of the good blogs to read like https://www.ecosophia.net/ or https://ourfiniteworld.com/?amp can center you to what the future holds and once known it can provide a certain uneasy comfort......all that said if what is looking likely with the great glorious life saving jibby jabbies pans out, the reduction in population might just keep us going for a few more party years on the fossil fuel express..thanks Billy boy & and the rockerfellas featuring the committees of 300 and their wonderful background scene setting music!!! My ancestors dealt with starvation within the last 130 years in 1898-99 and deprivation up until 1960s and people are starving now in the horn of Africa and Yemen and that will only get worse but "there by the grace of God go I"
Do you know why oil hit $130/ barrel in 2008?? Because Big Oil didn’t want to invest in oil production if Iraq was going to stabilize and export 10 mbd!! Iraq is on its way to 10 mbd and it costs several dollars to produce a gallon and several dollars to ship a gallon!! That’s $6/barrel—do the math!!
My first guess would be because conventional oil production peaked in 2005. At the time maybe big oil was taking notice of all the explosions, kidnappings, murder and civil war after the USA brought sweet sweet domacracy and freedom to Iraq. Iraq has been at 4.5 mbpd for 3 years now. It would be fantastic if it doubled production but than would not even bring us back to the peak of Nov 2018. It takes a few years of investment in plant and machinery to increase production and build and development new fields. So even if a magical number of 10 mbpd was achieved in 5 years the decline in other producing countries would have cancelled out Iraqs growth. The only major producer with the infrastructure and spare capacity to be a "swing" producer is Russian, maybe its a strategic mistake to start a war with your fuel station.
The cure for high commodity prices is…high commodity prices. Saudi Arabia wants oil at $75/barrel and so that’s the price of oil. Putin gets the George W Bush award for being a dumbass on a global scale.
At $100/barrel many alternatives become competitive with oil…that’s why the Saudis will never allow $100/barrel oil for any sustained period…because they will lose market share just as Putin lost his natural gas market share in the EU.
There is not a whole lot of evidence for the 'abiotic' origin of petroleum. The preponderance of evidence supports the widely accepted hypothesis that oil originates from organic matter literally hundreds of millions of years ago. Even a 'much, much faster time scale' would probably be measured in the millions of years.
Ahh but the deepest fossil reserves found were 16,000 feet but oil reserves are routinely pulled fron 30,000 feet below grade. I tend to believe that it is a continuous commodity with organic reactiin forces provided
Yeah, phrases like “the preponderance of evidence” smacks of “the vast majority of doctors believe” which I now give negative weight. Stating such platitudes instead of the actual evidence or data is 99.8% manipulative propaganda ... according to the experts. 😉
Unfortunately, the production decline rate of fracked wells is very high. Continual drilling is required to maintain volumes. Compressed natural gas does not have the energy density of gasoline or diesel and thus the range of the vehicles is more limited.
At $75/barrel you can transform natural gas into diesel and kerosene…EVs are essentially natural gas vehicles because electricity is produced by burning natural gas.

Yes the people in government make decisions without any thought to the outcome. Things like locking people down, shutting businesses, shitting schools, mandating covid jabs for all careers, causing a mass exodus of 40,000 carers. What kind of stupidity reins? A more recent example of dangerous decision making is taking place right now. 500 illegal immigrants, all young men, will be housed in a barge, off the coast of Dorset. These gents will be allowed to come and go as they please. How many will disappear, how many will commit crimes. What could possibly go wrong? A decision made with NO consultation with the people paying for this theatre, the taxpayer!
I don't think this is about stupidity (although they aren't the shiniest pennies in the cash register drawer) and I think they know EXACTLY what they are doing. I was an adult in the 70s and out in the working world. They were doing stupid things then and they still are - no one is that stupid to continue to make the same mistakes over and over and still hold office. This is about lies, corruption and their need to weaken/destroy America and humans. They want to be in absolute control - this has always been what Marxism/Communism is about - those few at the top who want to control absolutely everything in the world. It's about them being psychopaths. They only things which are important to psychopaths are money, total control, and power.
Civilizations grow and die because of our inability to stop the psychopaths that crave power. The problem with absolute power is that the serfs quit making decisions. The last czar of Russia was asked about the route of a planned railroad. He took a ruler, put one end at the start point and the other end at the stop point and drew a straight line except where his thumb stuck out over the edge of the ruler and made a curved section. The rail line was built with a curved section. Once a powerful, tyrannical, ruler is asked to make a decision on something complex, and gives a decision, that ruler will be cursed with the task of forever more making such decisions in that field of endeavor.
Nobody can do that, not when they want to control everything. Can you make 100 important decisions in one day? Day after day after day? Oh, is absolute power over every thing fun? No, it is not. Even God does not do that. We have free will and are expected to exercise that with care to do the right thing.
As I’ve said before, they’re psychopaths with the maturity of children. It will go hellishly bad if we don’t put a stop to their world destroying hubris.

I'm starting to worry. As the grid is weened off fossil fuels and converts to solar/wind; on days that are windless, cloudy and sunrays are reflected back into space, who will open the gates of the gated communities; illegal aliens?

Things all seem pretty bad and are very likely to get much worse in the next couple years or more. All these technocrat fascist globalists formulating these plans think they can engineer a disaster that will enslave the rest of us under their “care”. They have the hubris to try this because they mock God. Well, as the old saying goes, man plans and God laughs. Their plans are so grandiose, they would require God’s miraculous assistance to fully implement. He may just let them do it. At least for a while. But if you are awake and prepared, you should be able to ride out this turmoil. I’m trying to do it with gratitude, peace, and joy.

Well, that was a cheery read! I lived through the 1970s as a teenager and remember the power cuts and 3-day weeks and all that. Mostly I remember everything was brown and orange, made of plastic and came from Taiwan. Even expensive things were cheap tat. Food was dreadful and came out of packets and tins. The music was good though so maybe we can look forward to slightly grubby and unwashed pop stars wearing flares and plastic platforms rocking some decent tunes as we sit in our cold, dark houses with frozen pipes, 3 TV channels, tinned meatballs and clothes that are cheap and nasty and far too big.
I am in the United States what do you mean by three day weeks. Is it you worked 3 days off 4, or you had power, I remember here in the states wearing our coats in class because the furnace didn’t work, high gas prices, chickens were so small I called them pigeons, and an outlook of this really isn’t good. The general public was we are in this together, not one of I got mine, and yours, f*ck off.
The 3-day week was where businesses/factories were only operational for 3 days out of 7. I think it was to save power. The man who lived next door to us worked for the electricity board and had a posh company car and a big income. It always pleased my mother that the power cuts imposed by the organisation he worked for also turned the electricity off in his house! I remember people going round the shops with lighted candles in one hand and a basket in the other! Nearly everyone seemed to be on strike too!
Wow, I never knew that. Here in the US it seems, looking back, that we were never told how things were going in other countries. I remember the Vietnam war, black and white tv, the change to color, the really terrible fashions, tons of jeans, but never a three day work week. How did hospitals and schools adapt? Or government offices? I got to visit GB back in the very early 1990s. I loved so much about England, still do.

Spot on. There’s no point in changing from Fiat to digital with the issue of debt. The great reset means of everything. Research David Dubyne Adapt 2030 on you tube, especially, may we be alive at the end of 2023
In my way of thinking, Central Banks forfeit the right to have central bank digital currency since it was their mismanagement, greed, hubris, and corruption that has put the fiat currencies into such trouble, along with the governments that just kept kicking the debt can down the road all of my 72 years on earth. Each country should issue treasury notes themselves and have balanced budgets. Ya know, the way families who are responsible handle their money.
Ah, but they have the power and control of the legislatures and do not concede to your way of thinking. They play to win, and they try to rig the game so they always win. CBs need to be eliminated.

Excellent essay, and a very readable, succinct and accurate picture of our current global situation & how we got here.
I was a young adult in the 1970s (in Australia). I didn't have anything much to compare it with, so it didn't seem that bad. I didn't have a mortgage, so the rising inflation & horrific interest rates did not have much direct impact on me. I was a Uni student during most of that decade, and while wages were low (especially if you were under 21) rent was also quite low, much more affordable than today.
Now, the economy is structured so that a lot of essentials (or near essentials, such as petrol) have become expensive - and more necessary. People seem to have stopped bothering about fuel economy when they buy a car (yes, I know I am showing my age here!). We are all supposed to be going electric, of course - if you can afford it. (And without any understanding of the ongoing costs and issues of producing that electricity.)
I live in Brisbane, Queensland, and while it is nice to have A/C in summer, when I was growing up it was a rare luxury. Same with heating. Houses are built so that they need A/C and ducted heating to be comfortable - people generally turn up their noses as the old Queenslander style houses on stumps with big verandahs and overhanging eaves, maximising airflow and comfort during the humid summer weather.
So not only has electricity become super expensive, it has become more structurally necessary. (Unless you are dedicated to detaching from the grid, and are prepared to make a huge effort to do this.)
It's the same with a lot of other things. It's pretty much required for kids to have electronic devices to manage their schooling - this is a structural change that is very hard to resist. (And here I am, sitting at my computer and communicating via the internet, and very grateful for all these benefits of technology, too!)

I started the 70s as a teenager and ended it as a young, married adult. It was a difficult decade for sure and certainly a transformative one. My memory is that despite all of the crises, most of us just got on with things as best we could. By and large our memories of the decade are reasonably positive. As for now, I'm the wrong side of sixty five and when the shit hits the fan as it inevitably will, I fear for my future as many will see me as a 'useless eater' using up precious resources. My gut feeling is that to deflect the anger of the young at their prospects being dashed, inter generational conflict will be stoked up to the max. It's going to get ugly, that's for sure. So yes, fear but also resignation. I've given up on the dream of a quiet retirement, knowing that a fight is coming. If the end is coming soon, I just hope it's quick. Meanwhile, I try to get the best out of each day, knowing that it won't be long before the storm clouds gather and eventually break...
The corollary to the world set-up is the game of chess. The Talmud mentions a game called Naradshir (Ketubot 59a). The pawn represents the Soul. It is the only piece that has the potential to become a Queen (a Royal Soul) by reaching the other end of the Board. The Battles the pawn must endure to reach the other end, sharpen the mind and encourage great creativity to find solutions. If we fail, we are either eliminated or enslaved. This is true on both the Individual and National Levels. HOWEVER, those who are successful are not necessarily the high and mighty in society (but they could be). Being of modest means is usually of benefit because the mind will sharpen when there is lack. Lack is not, however, necessary to success. If the maturity is there, lack is not needed and will not be present. The Opposition is ALWAYS there, but the Battles are played out in different sections of the Board / World and with different levels of intensity. The Battles are conspired to match the weaknesses of a particular Generation / Individual / Nation in order to focus the Mind and the Soul to engage in a Correction, a Tikkun in Hebrew. We are not the victims of the psychopaths provided we understand the GAME and work towards our Soul Correction. God intervenes when the game is being rigged or the punishment of consequences is to be mitigated by good deeds. God is 100 % in control of the Game - https://www.algemeiner.com/2016/02/02/why-chess-is-like-the-talmud-and-why-jews-love-both/

It seems possible that the BRICS+ will replace the currency basket idea with a gold-backed currency (only for member trading settlements); a much better option. Watch out for the the BRICS+ Conference in Johannesburg next month 22 -24 August, ignored by western media.
Yes NE - Bigger Than You Can Imagine
This would leave two global choices; either the western financial system collapses, or with Biden, a third world war (it's good for big business). Hopefully, the Western Alliance US$ based system will collapse first. I'm an optimist.
Either way, at a personal level, buy gold while you still have the chance at these silly prices, to protect yourself and your loved ones. This is a process that will not happen overnight - at least many, many months, likely a few years.

In the 1980s, the banks - including national banks - were freed of all fetters, in accordance with the hypotheses of people like Hayek and Friedman and their hydra-headed legions of acolytes, after decades of succesful lobbying from (drum roll) banks and major corporate de-facto cartels, in the name of neo-liberalism.
What we are living under now is nothing but said neoliberalism made real. It took over 70 years for communism to collapse. Neoliberalism wrecked the world's most succesful nations in about 35.
But hey hey, the rich got richer and we all know riches trickle down on the people actually doing the labour producing the riches, right?
Well, something trickles down anyway. More and more, it pours. Just gape wide, adherents of Rand and Mises, and enjoy your ideology made flesh.
Modern britian is a balkanised multy culty shit hole.
Perhaps a massive collapse is for the best as it will force the stupified British to fight for survival whilst they still have the numbers that will allow success.

This is a great essay and spot the heck on. I've been reading about this exact thing happening for years. Putin and the rest of our "adversaries" play the long game....Americans live in the 15 second moment. The things I've kept my head in the sand about, are happening right now! I actually, when I was consumed on all this mafesance, didn't want kids. 911 is what kicked this shit into hyperdrive. Needless to say, I and most of us just focus on the day to day. That method is and the only way for me to stay out of some kind of depression or hell hole of feeling singular in being awake. Control what you can control... I had kids.... Now, I'm so freaking worried about not listening to my inner voice... Spot on what's happening . Keep waking the sleeping up... I've reserved myself to just living and making the best days possible for my family. However, this whole Covid bullshit has woke many more lions. I actually have hope again more woke folks might actually make a difference

Yes, and LNG. The climate change hoax is their created problem.
All Gore and Greta Thunberg have fanned the flames in order to create the desired reaction.
The pre-determined solution the powers that shouldn't be want is carbon tax.
The elimination of carbon equates with the killing of all plant life on earth, which in turn equates with the killing of all remaining forms of life.
That begs the question: How do the powers that shouldn't be figure that they will survive all of this?
Those who vote for the "nanny" work for her.

Overall worldwide we are probably at the 13% mark 1 to 8 barrels and the rate of cost is increasing fast.
Please have a read of https://surplusenergyeconomics.wordpress.com/18531-2/ and Tim Morgan's insights.
At $100/barrel many alternatives become competitive with oil…that’s why the Saudis will never allow $100/barrel oil for any sustained period…because they will lose market share just as Putin lost his natural gas market share in the EU.
yes, there are alternate views of oil I've read about too. I'll see if I can track back those links.
You find what you look for. After the last three years, I trust the authorities and experts not at all.
Yeah, phrases like “the preponderance of evidence” smacks of “the vast majority of doctors believe” which I now give negative weight. Stating such platitudes instead of the actual evidence or data is 99.8% manipulative propaganda ... according to the experts. 😉
Irrelevant—natural gas is the most important fossil fuel and it can be made very quickly.
Agreed this is all by design; world domination requires collapse ruin and then a savior.
Requiring a savior *is* stupidity.
Agreed!
Yes - and the children are having a major temper tantrum; that is never very pretty. It's up to us, the more mature ones, to hold the line...
I'm starting to worry. As the grid is weened off fossil fuels and converts to solar/wind; on days that are windless, cloudy and sunrays are reflected back into space, who will open the gates of the gated communities; illegal aliens?
Hmm, it could become a burgeoning business model.
Don't worry, they will have back up generators.
Connected to fossil fuels we're not allowed to access.

Since the industrial revolution the UK has used 6 billion tonnes of domesticlly mined coal.
It isestimated that we still have 23 trillion tonnes of known reserves, much of which is recoverable with existing technology.
The psucopaths in power are harming us because that is what they like to do.

1970s Britian was a relatively homogenous place.
Modern britian is a balkanised multy culty shit hole.
Perhaps a massive collapse is for the best as it will force the stupified British to fight for survival whilst they still have the numbers that will allow success.
As someone who does recall the seventies, all I can say is that it was a fun, oversexed and slightly mad period of our lives, we still believed in things...nothing like today at all…
This is a great essay and spot the heck on.
