My now-dead-from-the-vax friend, a middle-class teacher, was never able to keep her home sufficiently warm, especially since she lived in one of those nice middle-class areas that had never laid gas lines so all heating had to be electric. She had storage heaters but she was always cold, Especially being a kidney patient. And with arthritis in her hands.

I've been freezing in the UK some summertime visits so believe me I know what your climate is like and how it can even feel warmer outside in winter than it does inside.

Well, it's up to you guys to rise up, to boycott everything until these people are schooled. Because life experience sure hasn't schooled them.

All the while heating bills are inflated with the subsidy to the energy producers. So the very poor are paying the dividends of the share holders of the private equity energy production companies.

Well, we the people everywhere are gonna have to figure this out.

There were no new off-shore wind projects secured in the last round of bids in 2023 because the private companies say that the government set the price too low. With government promoting a new publicly owned energy utility it would appear they don't know the actual price of producing energy either. Maybe the new company is to provide a guide to energy pricing. Until then it would appear energy pricing is akin to the wild west, inflate prices to pay out massive dividends.

Hypocritical creatures who feather their own nests at the cost of everyone, politicians = teller of lies.

Did anyone ever really think that a "leader" of Labour who is an avid WEF supporter and regular attendee, also a member of the Trilateral Commission, would be a "man of the people"? Trojan Horses come to mind.

Elections have consequences.

Historically the sheep don't bite until they're hungry and dying and then it's often too late to mount any threat.

As one of the purple fingered comminity, I intend to try and keep warm by imagining what this politician said of did that left her vulnerable to blackmail so that she had to abandon all principles.

One has to have schizophrenia to be a politician. This is referred to as living with dichotomies.

This is what happens when you deplete a key energy source... the NZ government is LYING - because they have to.

They are saying there is not enough natural gas because they banned exploration ... but the truth is that whatever remains is too expensive to find and extract.... being an island nation it cannot be piped in from other sources.... sure they could freeze it and ship it in from the United States... but that is insanely expensive...

Forget about renewable energy - incredibly expensive... and intermittent... battery storage is insanely expensive

So we are seeing energy costs sky rocket.... businesses closing because of these insane overheads... and some major consumers of electricity being forced to scale back operations ... so that there is enough power to go around

I was speaking to a friend in Queenstown - he is beside himself as his power bill has doubled... $800 per month to keep his home warm.

NZ is f789ed.

https://www.odt.co.nz/business/jones-slams-ridiculously-high-power-prices

Oddly enough the last time I heard those words involving a country was when I was in Yemen a decade ago ... having a coffee with the head of the economic mission for the region for Canada... he was telling me that Yemen's oil was just about done ... and that within a year or two this country will be f789ed (he used those exact words)....

This is what happens when energy costs are unaffordable... this is the solution

Could it be that the government needs an publicly owned energy company to work out how much energy costs to produce?

But isn't the whole point that pensioners on benefits, ie those likely to have purple fingers, will still get payments. The pensioners in my family, not on benefits, seem happy enough with the new arrangement.

There are plenty of pensioners who aren't on benefits but only just survive financially. Of course there are plenty of pensioners that don't need the winter fuel payment but there are plenty who do.

I know pensioners not on benefits who would greatly appreciate a little help with fuel given food and other costs have gone up significantly. It's a cruel blow by a government who is supposed to care for and protect the vulnerable. Decent people who have worked hard and paid their taxes all their working lives. Sad.
