Yes, my husband is one of them. He doesn't text while driving but I have to restrain him from hurling insults to those so intent on texting while at lights that they hold up everyone else when the green comes on. Especially if it is a woman!

“Required behavior.” ‘Nuff said. The drones fell in line as predicted. Van man, Canadian truckers, and other folks who had to scratch a bit for their existence, folks who dwell in a real world, called bs on this from day one. The laptop drones, living in a world devoid of substance and divorced from objective reality, suckled greedily from the Covid teet. Nice to see the plan written out. Even tho us scratchers knew the plan all along.

And, as I'm reading this the TV is blaring COVID, GET YOUR SHOTS at me, and it's DR. TAM (she/it must be waning in stock shares). I poked my head up long enough to give both middle fingers to the TV. It's all just so much f'in BULLSHIT!

The thing with the "white van man" is that, unlike many of us, he has to deal with reality on a daily basis to do his job.
A plumber can't fix a cracked pipe joint by saying, "Leaking like that is your truth, my lived experience is different from yours, and don't offend me by forgetting my pronouns."

Great post! Those highly educated/gullible have failed to recognize or accept their ignorance while believing their viewpoints are divinely inspired. “Daes Angels” They know/assume all the little people are stupid, deplorable and Nazi’s if they resist, making their lies a form of compassionate care, it being their duty to correct them for their own good and that of society as a whole. How magnanimous they must feel knowing they are saving the little people from themselves while paving their path to nirvana.

So true. Tradesmen (and shop-workers**) were the few people you could have a sensible talk with in 2020 about risk/reward, mask-foolery, the need to earn a living, etc etc. Yes, many will have exploited furlough and carried on working - what did TPTB expect!
** If the big supermarkets had been honest about the number of days lost to Covid from staff working 8 till 6 among Joe Public - negligible I strongly suspect - the over-reaction could have been seen for what it was back in June 2020 and (with a rueful glance over our shoulders at the madness of March/April/May 2020) life could have resumed as normal.
Jab deaths and injuries would also have been massively reduced, as the risk-reward ratio could have been given a context - many more, seeing the healthy working at large among the population, would have avoided them.
I agree; since working in retail, I've noticed more fainting and "anticipated need for emergency response" than I did in the last two years of hospital floor work. I've lost two coworkers and see two "sick-all-the-time" since the boosters came out. And the sick calls. Thankfully, it's much easier to throw shade on the boosters now.
Only kinda-sorta. "Florida Man..." was the cliche for general craziness & weird news.....I dont think "white van man" has a good American equivalent, maybe "Joe 6-pack"?....

Geez. The irony of that CS Lewis quote. Did the guy ever look in a mirror?
Anyway--I've been thinking for awhile that the seeds of much of this can be found in the decades of valorizing sick people trying to survive bad diseases. First they became heroes because they didn't die and had to endure grueling, sometimes disfiguring treatments. Then they got allies in the healthy who showed visible support by wearing signifiers of remembrance. Everyone had their part to play in the valiant struggle against death. There was no consumer product that could not become a means of joining the crusade. Buy a pink blender and help someone to overcome breast cancer.
Illness isn't normal--it's a battle between good and evil. And here we are, all softened up for endless messages of allyship and traitorship and the monstrous looming enemy to be conquered by all good people.
Well said. Except the reference to C.S. Lewis -- do read more of him; the organization "N.I.C.E" at the end of "That Hideous Strength" is a helpful model for the professional/academic machine which produces such blindness in the professional class.
I appreciate the characterization of the sick as "heroes" in the "war on illness". This recalls an interview I viewed recently with a rapper known as "Ice Cube", who had turned out a multimillion dollar offer to stay away from the shot. He observed, in slow, simple speech: "If I'm selling the bullets and the bandaids, I'd want there always to be a war."
I assure you I had more than sufficient of CS Lewis after that seriously disappointing moment of learning Aslan was really Jesus. There's no redemption from that.
A half-emoji. Yeah, I must admit agreeing with a professor's expressed distaste for Lewis's thick layer of Anglican apologetic. One may be sympathetic, but there are much better treatments of Christian themes -- Tolkein's work is an easy example.
CS Lewis was very aware that he was an academic so I'm not sure what you mean here? Agree with you about the cult around being sick. I guess that what happens in a so called secular society - the need for good and evil asserts itself one way or another.

Oh, by the way. Not only have I got a white van (Transit Mk7 Great van) I also got advanced driving skills. I can roll a fag whilst drinking a cup of tea and eating a pie at forty miles an hour on a winding country lane at night.
I've also got one of those "How is My Driving" stickers on the back. That the best crack because I put my mates phone number on it and I drive like a bloody maniac.
He can't work out why he keeps getting all these angry phone calls.
I don't bother with that namby pamby Union Jack flag either. I fly the Skull and Crossbones from the roof rack.

I am retired. I am a retired carpenter and joiner. My white van (Mk 7 Transit) is a tool box on wheels that doubles as a materials collection and delivery vehicle and is a great thing to drive; better than a car. I still use it just to drive about in and pretend I am working and with a bit of luck strike the occasional bit of fear into those nuisance car drivers.
I’ve got a special rack in the back where I stack all of my extreme right wing ideas alongside the crates of bigotry that I need now and again. It’s great, I love it. Might even get a gun rack to go with the rebel flag and my Make Britain

My biz stayed open aka “essential” during Covid. I deal with mostly tradesmen (mechanical) and nothing changed for us except traffic VANISHED. And nobody died. A lot did get jabbed to keep their jobs but a few held out. One was hired back within 24hrs once the cranes broke down lol. That guy is a blast to shoot the shit with.
Thank goodness. The real people will live. And I do hope that this experience will turn many more young people toward learning a trade, instead of going into decades of debt at Indoctrination U.
ViaVeritasVita not all young are dumb, my son turned down his place in uni.
He passed the hardest 3 A levels but opted for an engineering apprenticeship. Still works his Saturday job at the butchers as well, not all the young are stupid and useless he’d sussed out years ago that uni wasn’t worth the trouble.

Gone are the days when no one talked about having a virus it did not even cause anyone to raise an eyebrow it was always just one of those minor tiresome things that happened in everyday life. It is sheer madness when we still have obsessed people testing themselves so they can talk about their "covid episode". CS Lewis could have been talking about who to target when trying to convince the masses to be terrified of the pseudo pandemic, it really seemed like a quote coming from 2020.
Hooray for the “white van man”! 💪🏼

Tolkien, despite his own strong specific faith, wrote great mythic works infused with an older tradition.
CS Lewis was very aware that he was an academic so I'm not sure what you mean here? Agree with you about the cult around being sick. I guess that what happens in a so called secular society - the need for good and evil asserts itself one way or another.
“Why you fool, it's the educated reader who CAN be gulled...."

In my view he got into gulling with a vengeance, after he'd gulled himself.

"Strider", maybe, not "Stridor" -- too much coughing from geoengineering spray, and recent medical brainwashing.
I was looking for that CS Lewis quote but was having trouble as I misremembered it as Orwell. Thanks.
