Ukrainian officials say the use of facial recognition software could help end the brutal war. But some experts call it ‘classic psychological warfare’ that sets a gruesome precedent.
Ukrainian officials have run more than 8,600 facial recognition searches on dead or captured Russian soldiers in the 50 days since Moscow’s invasion began, using the scans to identify bodies and contact hundreds of their families in what may be one of the most gruesome applications of the technology to date.
The country’s IT Army, a volunteer force of hackers and activists that takes its direction from the Ukrainian government, says it has used those identifications to inform the families of the deaths of 582 Russians, including by sending them photos of the abandoned corpses.
The Ukrainians champion the use of face-scanning software from the U.S. tech firm Clearview AI as a brutal but effective way to stir up dissent inside Russia, discourage other fighters and hasten an end to a devastating war.

To do so you would need to actually be pushing Russian positions and being able to capture the dead bodies. If you read the real news, this is not the case. So another example of this house of lies pathetic attempts to spin a narrative of strength. Just like the fake Ghost of Kiev

A few yes. The story says 8600 facial recognition searches. Casualty numbers are 12-14,000 by estimates on the Russian side. So they were able to do this to half the men killed while being the defending force? Further, what database are they pulling this intimation from? How do they have that information? How are they then matching dead men to their mothers, social media? A phone book?
It makes no sense for a faction that is loosing territory to be able to do what they are claiming they are doing. Also how are they taking these photos? Smart phones? Great way to be found by artillery.
Great article. Facial recognition has made incredible progress and I was able to identify some faces in the recent past leading to surprising results. Basically you are NOT anonymous if they have a picture of your face, even if they do not have a name.

Yes the numbers are probably false but the rest of it is probably being done with help from the US.
