AI is totally and ridiculously over hyped. It may be able to provide an elaborate argument about things to consider when having to make a decision, BUT it can't actually make a decision when asked to. So there is the failure. Artificial Intelligence is like Artificial Sweeteners. Nothing like the real thing.

Unfortunately, some humans aren't capable of outthinking AI. In fact, there are huge numbers of people who expect to be told what their opinion is, rather than come up with their own.

Agreed. My main worry is that AI will be assumed to actually be intelligent / correct and put to work in totally inappropriate ways.

the point is that many jobs which people believe needs decisions and skills are actually pretty straightforward and not as sophisticated as we believe. so AI can perform it from a large database.

The AUDACITY of any leader in a developed country telling their citizens that taxes are falling is infuriating. We are tax slaves to support the rest of the world, and it’s not just payroll taxes. It’s property taxes, it’s car registration taxes, it goes on and on. Here in the US, if you added it up I bet it would be in the 70% range. I hate politicians and their duplicitous talk and their disregard for the average person on whose backs all of their ridiculous programs are riding.

Amazing that a doctor thinks that masks prevent viruses like colds and Covid. What an idiot!

Of course, knowing about the hot lots has been available knowledge for what, 2 years? And where those lots were sent, and the political leaning of those areas, and which medical practices were administering them. But it's nice to see that the rest of the uninquisitive world now can have access to that information.

I don't know about the seasonally versus government interventions.

In 2020 covid behaved exactly as you would expect a seasonal virus to do, it disappeared in summer and came back in winter. 2021 started the same, it was peaking then failling going into spring. Then when around 50% of the population here in Catalonia were jabbed (where I was following the numbers closely), the case numbers shot up to more than in the winter. This was in the middle of summer.

It appeared to me that the coerced jabs turned it from a seasonal illness to a year round one. So government interventions affected it and made it way worse in terms of case numbers.

What's happened to Scotland over these recent years is particularly sad to me. I have such happy memories from my backpacking days and very dear British friends of Scots ethnicity.

And these were the people who invented public education so that every man and woman could read the Bible in the vernacular and decide its meaning for themselves. What an inversion of history.

Do tell---I thought it was Boston with the 1642 and then 1647 Old Deluder act?

Per Wikipedia:

"In 1616 an act in Privy council commanded every parish to establish a school "where convenient means may be had", and when the Parliament of Scotland ratified this with the Education Act 1633, a tax on local landowners was introduced to provide the necessary endowment. A loophole which allowed evasion of this tax was closed in the Education Act 1646, which established a solid institutional foundation for schools on Covenanter principles. "

I’m flabbergasted by the news I read out of Scotland – the level of corruption, political prosecutions, the rampant trans cult. Where did this come from?

You find out, let us all know. I've got a book on my shelf called "How the Scots Invented the Modern World" and now apparently they want to blow it up.

What ever will we do without the WAPO? I can hardly wait.

Also, it appears we won't be able to land on the moon, again. Hard to believe that everything connected with the first purported landings was lost and can't be replicated.

FYI: I've just been attempting to tidy up my sad inbox which is currently over-inhabited by as-yet unread "Today's Must-Reads," which aren't a priority for me since they're paywalled after the first group of listings. But if I do read something intriguing there I often try to find further info on the interwebs. And that's what I did with this and it was extremely very much worth reading. Thought you'd like to know that even your paywalled stuff has great value.

Must-reads are just that, must-reads. I post articles because they are of interest, not because I agree with them. In this case, the article is showing that mask mandates are on the rise again and to be aware of the type of information everyone else is being subjected to. I have never worn a mask and don't ever intend to!
