Thank you for such a content-rich post.

Two items jumped out to me. They may not be the most important but they are most surprising.

First, the destruction of useful and precious trees to make way for disappointingly performing wind farms. Shame on those responsible.

Second, a monumental change in our basic understanding of the age of our planet. This isn’t just an adjustment but a massive upheaval. I’ll have to try and understand the how.

Thank you again.

I remember reading recently, that they hooked up diesel generators to the turbines, to make the wind blades turn, so it would appear the whole wind farm investment was working.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if that were true!

You have been lied to. The biggest Rube Goldberg device is ethanol which Bush and Trump support.

Not the age of our planet, but the age of the universe. There is an actual difference between the two.

"Why did Mental Health Professionals Go Along with Lockdowns? What is surprising is the indifference of so many from psychology and related fields coupled with their dutiful attempts to reconcile the fact that humans are social creatures who can be harmed through social isolation with political and ideological dictats that humans are diseased creatures who must be isolated."

It may perhaps be time to recognize the inherent absurdity in the phrase "mental health professionals." Them guys more often than not are just batshit crazy themselves. And the behaviorists have always been the worst.

“NASA enters the 'home stretch' in its mission to reach a $10,000 QUADRILLION asteroid that's packed full of precious metals.”

Uhh, one question: who’s going to pay $10,000 quadrillion? Maybe if the government keeps printing money, that’s going to be the average weekly paycheck.

Tongue out of cheek, I’m wondering if this superabundance of minerals might, I don’t know, affect the price of those minerals at all? How much gold are people actually willing to pay for if it’s as common as air? Its value is intimately linked to its perceived scarcity. The absurdity of claiming to find a resource that’s more valuable than the entire economy seems to be lost on some.

Expand full comment

Well, obviously you're right about that. If resources could be obtained from asteroids such as the specified one in a significant amount for not too unreasonable a cost, than the value of those metals would fall precipitously. This does not mean that it would be not worth doing, an example would be aluminum changing from the most expensive metal to the cheapest because of new methods for releasing it from ores. It turned that metal from a luxury good to a extremely common and useful good. Gold and silver are current examples of metals that would be used more for industrial purposes if they were more common and cheaper. Gold, in very small amounts, is used for insulation and protection from corrosion. Silver is a superior metal for electrical wiring compared to copper, but is generally only used that way in very special applications such as space probes.

Expand full comment

I agree that “worth doing” is within the realm of possibility.

I do think, though, that’s it a sad commentary when utter nonsense is used to grab a headline.

The credibility of “science” has taken on a lot of water, and the gunwales are near the waterline. Some argue that science has ceased and has become gibberish in search of dollars (and I have seen that up-close: an acquaintance of mine, with a big name in science, was leading a large effort to get “science” money for a project that even a nitwit like me could see could never work. He got millions. Years later he confessed that the objective was “a lot harder than we thought”. But the pursuit of the money was more the goal than the stated objective of the project).

So I see the $10,000 quadrillion figure as likely to be part of a money-grubbing PR exercise to dupe dumber-than-baked-beans politicians into agreeing to fleece the taxpayer to blow money on some harebrained scheme that will never work. They basically just multiplied the current price of the minerals by the mass that they estimate and didn’t even have the brains to see that the result was, as we are prone to saying in my neck of the woods, complete horseshit.

The United States has the most gold in the world, among other resources, as I understand it, and it's all cost effective to mine. It's a nice challenge to think about, mining an asteroid, but it's still inherently prohibitively expensive.

"Disappointingly for the We’re All Gonna Fry brigade, it’s cool, rainy and sullen here with fitful gusts of wind; almost autumnal at times." I love that, The We're All Gonna Fry brigade, right up there with Darwin Awards and the Drop It Now Club (Cold War speak for moonbat lunatic events) Also, many thanks for the Cave of Bones suggestion. Surprisingly touching and imaginative. Since we've got both Barbie and Oppenheimer this weekend---does that point to some kind of nexus in time that needs to be debrided?---here's a half readable poem by Oppenheimer that might be an nonlocal nontemporal Easter egg lol

In theory conservatives and libertarians could create their own financial institutions. But they would be subject to infiltration and takeover as has already happened to so many institutions already. Even if they could be protected from that fate, they would then be subjected to an organized campaign of boycotts, lawfare and regulatory interference by existing private market players and governments.

At any other time, the collapsing M2 growth and the yield inversion would signal that a historic contraction in the U.S. economy is just on the horizon. Yet, we sit in a goldilocks economy and have been for the last few years with sustained job growth and consumer demand. It boggles the mind. It's as if none of the classic rules of economics apply anymore.

Everyone predicted bullwhip effect just like after WW2. The biggest thing people aren’t factoring in is the unprecedented weather events that have hit Texas and Louisiana since August 2020. Remember we actually had inflation in 2006 and 2007 that was instigated by Hurricane Katrina because hurricanes that hit Louisiana greatly impact natural gas prices.

The article about Populism giving Elites more power is utter rot, slights of hand distraction and actually shouldn't make sense to even leftists. The writer sets up strawman arguments with no bases, to argue that offshoring manufacturing etc. is better for the common man than bringing those home. Lots of sly assumption, says there is built in protectionism that requires subsidies and the Elites control all that, so, should continue business as usual which has the U.S. vulnerable and dependent on China. As usual 'Populism' is bad, because the People don't know what is best for them, but the Elites and government do.

Wow.

Please read! Your life depends on it, because there's a plan to murder 95% of the global population by 2050… written on the mason Georgia guide-stones:

- Both Churchill and Roosevelt were masons and plotted to get the reluctant USA into the war by provoking the Japs and letting Pearl Harbor (left the whole fleet defenseless and concentrated there as an easy candy to be taken from a kid, no radar warning from outer islands, etc.)

- 9/11: 2 "planes", yet the third tower that imploded like in a controlled demolition (WTC7) was out of reach and all 7 World Trade Center towers destroyed, not the closer towers not belonging to World Trade Center, and the owner with his 2 grown up siblings failed to show up for work (never skipped work before)...

- J6: The fake riot was mason-planned, incited and guided by FBI agents, who broke into the Capitol !!! The same mason-plot was copy-pasted to disband the insurrection against the stolen elections in Brazil!

- At least since the 90s, vaccines were weaponized to reduce the population, for example:

1. Adding hCG to infertilize women: lab detected in 30 countries

2. Overpassing the FDA 10 ng limit to human DNA “contamination” by 2000%, thus causing neuro-damage (autism, asperger, tics, dyslexia in 29% of kids, etc.) and childhood cancer epidemic (n.b. leukemia, non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas)

The post about Protectionism and Populism are gaslighting both. Corruption exploded after 1980 when we ended protectionism. Free Trade gave the reigns of the world's finance to the international industry, who in turn lobby the politicians into subservience. Furthermore, the free trade agreements, are so exhaustive and complicated that they remove democracy from the nations and lock it into the international bureaucracy governed by the unelected large international lawyer firms and the international financial sector. It tied all national politicians in toward this system, despite national needs and democratic oversight. It is almost impossible to survive as a politician today if you are against this system.

Trumps refusal to comply to the free trade system, was the sole reason he was vilified by everyone in the ruling class. It was history's largest cancellation project of a single individual.

The 13 000 directives that Norway has received from the EU, is only one part of the bureaucracy we have received from free trade unions. There is very little freedom left to create or maintain functional economic rules and laws.

In the US, from 2001 to 2016, the WTO with China as a favoured status member, the US lost 33% of it's industry. This is why Bill Clinton who created it was involved in the China Gate where the purpose of the incoming money was to give China the favoured status. It is why he skyrocked into politics and why Hillary later was in charge of one of the worlds largest slush funds later on, or philantropic organisation as it was also called. Seemingly every dictator in the world payed in to it.

Back before the free trade, when the west had industry...we had a strict control of industry corruption, and we did not have the extreme tax havens as we have today, nor was the labor wages so low or the natuon states so indebted. This article vilifying protectionism is as vile as it is maniupulative.

Concerning "Ukraine and the West..." "...the grim prospect of territorial concessions" I just do not know why it is a "grim prospect." There have always been two kinds of Ukrainian: the pro-Russian and pro-Western (red and white). Russia has behaved like real savages. Despicable actions have been done and many Ukrainians have turned to the West. But those persons who are traditionally pro-Russian are still living there, in Donetsk, etc. Russia should get some of that for their security. That seems to be the reasonable conclusion. Maybe make some secure or solid borders and get two countries. Which is exactly what Ukraine has always been anyhow.
