Thanks for this link - really can't believe I have not read it. Reading now. My book recommendation is The Story Of Civilization ( 11 volumes) by Will and Ariel Durant. I no longer waste time driving without listening to this book and after a year I am on volume four. I suspect I will be listening to it for the rest of my life. It is a monumental work that should, I think, be far more widely known than it is. Had I read it 35 years ago, at Sussex, it would have made sense of a Philosophy degree that made little sense then. Imagine discovering a more or less accurate map of the world after spending 40 years trying to figure it out on your own; this book is a more or less accurate map of the whole of human history. Beautifully written.

Thanks I read The Prince years ago and this has encouraged me to order The art of War.

Machiavelli book is important but generally misunderstood. It was used by sosiopaths to justify their cruelty after it's release. As it is with all systems, it can be used as intended or manipulated as a tool for the narcissist. People regretfully generally don't see the difference, just as with Christianity.

As long as we're talking Machiavelli, I'll throw in "The 48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene.
