Pancake day - the only day in the year when us Brits think we are allowed to make pancakes!
Everyone looks forward to the day, weeks in advance. Instead of the traditional observance of using up one’s rich foods in preparation for Lent, we buy as much butter and sugar and as many eggs as physically possible. Not to mention the jars of Nutella.
With no dress rehearsals undertaken, the frying pan is taken out of the cupboard and buttered up. Inevitably, the first attempt is a complete disaster. Then a good pancake is produced and the cockiness begins. First a small toss in the air before triple somersaulting pancakes hit the ceiling.
We don’t know how to make the fluffy US version so we stick with crepes. All three meals of the day consist of pancakes. One out of the hundred or so we eat, usually at dinner time, might be a savoury pancake stuffed with some cheese and ham - because it feels like that’s being healthy.
However, the rest are filled with nutella, jam, cream, bananas, golden syrup or, more often than not, the traditional sugar and lemon juice.
Some people won’t start making them until the church pancake bell has been rung. Others enjoy a spot of pancake racing whilst some take part in pancake mob football street matches. But most just stuff their faces with as many pancakes as they can be bothered to make…all day long.
Naturally, the NHS, being part of the nanny state, can’t but help stick its nose in! With some Globohomo artwork of course.
Anyway, it’s either because I’ve enjoyed my pancakes so much or just because I’m on a massive sugar rush, but I’ve decided to create a pancake day discount. This is for one crepe day only, so to get 20% off your subscription make sure you sign up today!
If you aren’t in the UK, do you still make pancakes today? If not, why not!? I know it’s called Mardi Gras in other parts of the world but don’t you think you should start embracing Pancake Day?
Here in Ohio, I just eat pancakes when ever I want. With maple syrup.
Like God intended.

I'm gobsmacked such an observance has been withheld from American celebrat6ion calendars but intend to remedy it immediately. Some days it feels like I miss too much of the important stuff!
