Admittedly, there have been a few more 37°C+ since 1990 but the main difference is…the media.

Even if there is a climate crisis why is the population constantly being made to worry and feel anxious about one crisis or another? Surely the more responsible thing to do would be to keep the population calm and look for solutions. The thing is, Donnachadh, if you take away energy from the world’s poorest, the world’s poorest will die.

I’ve started wondering why it seems we need to be constantly reminded how to behave in severe weather. Heat waves, cold temps, snowstorms, etc. We are constantly told “do this, don’t do that, blah, blah, blah.” As though we are small children who don’t know anything.
I mean, how did our forefathers ever manage to survive without these pedantic reminders.
Yes, I get that having some foreknowledge of impending severe weather can be helpful and life-saving.
But sheesh, when I was a kid and it hit 100 degrees outside, we sat inside w the fans on watching afternoon TV shows. Sometimes Mom sent one of us outside to spray our mobile home with water from the hose. Whether that actually helped or was just a way to get us out of her hair for a short bit, I don’t know. But none of us were freaking out about climate change.
These temperatures are annual just over the channel in France and Germany. I don't see people there dropping dead from the heat. My wife is from Frankfurt and she laughs when she hears people here saying it's hot when it's 20°. Weather is not climate.

I disagree: climate change is happening and it is man made, and it is deadly.
It is causing massive glacier melt, rising sea levels, desertification, forest fires and flooding.
This is not bullshit, this is good science.

I've been through many an Australian summer where you'll have 3-5 days in a row of highs of 40 in the late afternoon... and 30 degrees overnight. Relentless dry heat with little reprieve. You gotta slow down.
The danger really is having the outside temperature higher than that of your resting body temperature. Parts of your body slow / and can shut down if exerted too much without a break / shade and adequate hydration.

Meanwhile, it's +11C here, was +6 during the night. A perfectly average and normal swedish summer in this area. It could just as easy have been 90 days without rain, staying at +20C 24/7. That's normal too, just not the same year.
