I think Glenn Greenwald added an important point in his discussion of Julian Assange:

This is from Glenn Greenwald’s show yesterday: “Just on a personal level, I want Julian Assange out of prison. On a personal level, it's just a sickening atrocity and disgrace. But politically, to sit here and watch American journalists, American government officials, American political media elites spend a week weeping and crying and expressing all kinds of outrage over how Russia treats its dissidents, while our own government, the people that these journalists are supposed to check and report on, are slowly murdering Julian Assange is one of the most sickening things I've ever seen. “

Agree. This is persecution of a journalist that exposed atrocities that have happened under the US government, that the US condemns other countries for doing. I believe even if he is released his life will forever be in danger. The only reason they want him so bad is to teach all of journalism a lesson. If they can get away with this they will turn it against anyone.

Intereting how Navalny's death coincides with this, actually.

Funny to read the US accusations that wiki leaks “put American lives at risk” and yet not a word of concern about all the Americans injured or dead due to a recent mass vaxx program. Does anyone else see the hypocrisy? Anyone in the USA government calling for an investigation, or incarceration of the perps of the vaxx debacle.

Also worth noting that the court-martial trial of Manning that is the source of 1917 Espionage Act charges found ZERO cases of harm as a result of the leaks. If the prosecutors had any evidence of harm it would have been produced at trial. There was no harm.

Yep. Too few know this…mostly because it effectively eviscerates “the case” (such as it is) against him.

Let us not forget Manning and his transgender transformation in the middle of his prosecution and prison sentence. He has a special reason for getting a pass as well.

Manning had no special passes.. s/he was tortured w weeks in a cloth covered dog crate in Iraq.. solitary detention w abuses at Ft. Meade and 35 year sentence commuted by Obama after 7 years custody then another year for refusing to testify to WikiLeaks Grand Jury.

The rumours here are that the UK prison housing Julian Assange is pretty horrible. Why would the USA want to have him extradited, if the US found zero cause of harm Also why is he even in prison? He was too unwell this week, to attend the two day court case involving his extradition. Many showed up at the court house to protest his imprisonment.

Belmarsh is UK's GITMO designed for convicted terrorists & the most dangerous criminals. Julian is there to please Washington. Fearing extradition for exposing US war crimes Julian sought and was granted political asylum by Ecuador and given refuge in the Embassy while negotiations were attempted to grant Julian passage to the airport to go to Ecuador but UK kept police outside sworn to arrest Julian if he stepped outside. Seven years passed Ecuador elected a new President who took $35 million aid from USA.. let CIA spy on Julian inside the Embassy including meetings w lawyers who all had contents of their phones, laptops etc copied for CIA without consent.. Some of his US lawyers have sued CIA for unconstitutional spying & that is creeping along in NYC court now but prevailing against any intelligence agency w ability to declare evidence secret is a steep uphill climb.

Then in April 2019 Ecuador allowed British police to kidnap Julian from the Embassy and lock in Belmarsh pending US extradition. He is in prison because truth is treason in the Empire of lies & we see it before our eyes. #FreeAssange

Thank you Pamela. The pieces of the puzzle are all fitting into place.

It’s an awful predicament Manning got into. I’m sure a diagnosis of PTSD is in there somewhere. I didn’t have a problem with the fact he was released from prison early. What happened to manning after he became essentially a whistle blower was horrifying. There’s no getting around his/ her violation of the UCMJ and releasing information possibly led to putting others he served with in danger that were innocent. What I gave me a problem with transgender male /female being allowed to serve time in a women’s prison. Obama leaned into this trend.

I’m sure there’s lots more behind this story that’s being kept under wraps.

Great stuff here from The Naked Emperor's Newsletter and a timely reminder... Free Assange! I've written about this today on my own stack, too. The more the public hears about this rank injustice, the more they will understand the real enemy of freedom.

One of the best background pieces for America's plot to silence and smear Julian Assange comes from UN Rapporteur for Torture Nilz Meltzer who began with a perception he was dealing with an arrogant hacker but concluded "A murderous system is being created before our eyes"

"A made-up rape allegation and fabricated evidence in Sweden, pressure from the UK not to drop the case, a biased judge, detention in a maximum security prison, psychological torture – and soon extradition to the U.S., where he could face up to 175 years in prison for exposing war crimes. For the first time, the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Nils Melzer, speaks in detail about the explosive findings of his investigation into the case of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange."

This is our reminder that spymasters aren't domesticable. The wild imaginations and deranged risk-taking temperaments useful in winning actual on-the-ground wars where losing is certain death for thousands or millions are dangerous to one's own side in every other circumstances.

You can't turn these guys off. They experience a permanent high from the joy of devising worse and worser schemes. These agencies are the natural home of sociopaths and psychopaths and, of course, civil servant enablers who work quietly and diligently for every authorized master.

I used to love John Le Carre. I read every book he wrote as soon as it was published and that encompasses my adolescence through the rapidly-tarnishing golden years, and authors like him made these people heroic and thrilling in their portrayed devotion to the common good of ordinary little people oblivious of the terrible battles being fought to protect them.

And that's how we got seduced into not shuddering at the mere sound of the tidy acronyms hiding the monstrousness of "intelligence agencies."

I was fortunate at a used-book sale a couple of years ago to replenish my lost copies of the best of Eric Ambler. Time to reread "The Care of Time."

I’ve read a lot of BradThor’s books. I stopped because he writes using actual stories of espionage and secret operations with the usual actors. A combination of fiction and faction. Some pretty disturbing stuff. When you peel back the layers of what national security agencies are capable of doing then see what’s happening in real time, you lose all trust. And then they also protect the very worst of them. All to protect citizens from terrorists? Nah. It’s all backwards and upside down. It all filters down to controlling all of us.

And of course we learn long after the heroic stories have infiltrated our bones that all wars can be stopped by turning off the money spigots.

Every time a new WWI or WWII movie comes out I wonder what Hollywood has been told to distract us from. Every truly meaningful war movie has already been made. Often quite a few decades ago.

“the prosecution arguing that the CIA plans to kill Assange should not be admissible in court.” This here tells you all you need to know.

This deep state corruption is more prevalent than most people guess and I will be writing about clandestine collusion between the courts and local councils shortly…

Another black spot on trump for wanting to kill Assange.

Expand full comment

I was similarly shocked to see Trump‘s name conflated with the campaign against Assange, however you have to consider whether these things were actually done with the approval or connivance of Trump or whether this was the rogue and out of control CIA just doing what they do without any accountability or oversight. You have people like John Brennan the CIA director who operate outside the law via an accountable security contractor companies. This is the way they do business to avoid scrutiny and accountability and this is how they rig elections in foreign countries to put their puppet politicians in.

Re-establish the moral high ground... That assumes the moral high ground existed.

Did the West really stand on higher ground or were they just better at hiding the reality?

Covid has show us just the extent to which we hold the "high ground" in the public sphere while digging in private. When last did the West truly hold the high ground or has it always been an illusion.

Thank you for this piece. They do not want people thinking too deep about vault 7.
