Couldn't agree more. Strange that people don't realise that the media do not control the reality and all they need is to look for alternative sources, more direct and closer to the ground. Disappointing.

I'll call out journalistic nonsense any time, but I do not see that here. I've been in lots of photo selection conversations, and when there is a single topic that visually best describes the scene, it will get selected a LOT. Pics evoke reactions, and the photos that are the most powerful – a bloodied, bandaged woman in front of a bombed building – stand out and get selected.
Thanks for the inside view, the problem is that sometimes the most striking photos are fake or staged, as has already happened several times in the past.
Pics have watermarks but you can do searches and see all of the images that have been uploaded, sorting by newest, etc. I learned SO MUCH about the Canadian Trucker Convoy by doing this. Scores of brilliant photos that told stories, and I never saw those pics published anywhere. Maybe I was not looking at the right sites, but found them fascinating.
What is a puzzlement to me is why my BLM sign waving friends are far more concerned about photos showing a "bloodied bandage woman in front of a bombed building) in the Ukraine more then they are about pictures of children starving in Afganistan or bloodied bandage WOMEN in Yeman living under constant bombardments.
I mention BLM only because i am left to wonder if their concern for the white English speaking Ukranians (a concern I share by the way) instead of similar concern for the dark skinned folks in Yemen an Afganistan isn't something that could be called"racism". Everything else is.
Interesting. Certainly there has long been a complaint/observation that a missing white kid from the suburbs gets all the attention that a missing black kid from the city does not. Where is the delineation between interest and not?

Good luck establishing a functional definition that separates propaganda from journalism or information.
Closest you can get is ignore the appeals to emotion and look for hard facts. Who, what, when, why, where, and so on.
And most important - what's been left out? How do you know what was left out? Who did the choosing and the editing for you?
All news, or rather all information that tries to garner an emotional response and influence course of action should be approached as if you're byuing something very expensive.
I make no call either way about this image, since I don't know.
It used to be my job to teach that kind of stuff. How to test information. How to look for more. Where to find archives and how to speed read and use microfiche and microfilm. That kind of stuff. Then we got the net, and all of sudden it's like most everyone got stupid.
Looking up stuff in an archive or at a library or a cutting agency took time, you had to physically be there. Ain't no wonder John Q Public didn't do that for every suspicious news item after working full time coming home and just wanting a cold beer and a hot meal - no blame on the working man and woman of that time.
But after the net and after surveillance phones? What's the excuse for not looking? Everyone can go fish. More information than at any point in time is available.

All week I've had people ask me my thoughts on what's happening in the Ukraine. I told them "honestly? I don't know what to think? I feel bad for the civilians,but who knows if any or what parts are true? In Syria our government (U.S.) told us all how Syrian president Assad was gassing his own people with sarin. It was largely the reason we had to go to war or so we were told. Later to find out the photos used were staged. Besides what makes Biden any different than Putin? They're both stealing countries.Right now? We have to fix what happened in the 2020 election and all those who have been part of it along with those who have planned and executed the scamdemic ALL need to be on trial. The fact is, until justice is served I don't care about the Biden pay for play Ukraine. The Ukraine government has a long history of money laundering, adult child sex trafficking. ". Fast forward to this morning. I open my substack email and my thought stream is in black and white - smoke and mirrors. Who would go to war for leaders (cough,cough) that are a bunch of liars? Not I. So here's what I just read in a headline-"Stunning Discovery: Evidence Suggest U.S. I tell Baited Russia in December by Telling China the Ukraine was Coming Into NATO (New York times yesterday). This is why I no longer trust our government. So why did Biden state department tell China this? Many claimed incompetence, but I believe it was done with the intent that China would tell Russia and Russia would attack the Ukraine. It certainly makes sense considering the way the Biden regime fanned the flames of this war. I believe it was wanted. Obama started it when he backed what was then being called a coup in 2014. Certainly Obama, killer Clinton and the Biden family syndicate all benefited. I do feel for the people. Just as we have a corrupt government as they do, but we still want better for our homeland.
For starters, out of those thousands "gassed" - not one single body was ever exhumed and forensically examined as evidence and presented as a proof. Zero. Second, funny how the attacks were perfectly timed every time Trump made a noise that US has no business in Syria and wants to pull out. Third, it is absurd that gas - a very unreliable weapon - would be used in situation when government forces were winning (Daraa), but on the other side, for the jihadis (I think it was "Army of Islam") staging or doing an attack was the last chance to bring in NATO intervention to save them.
