It’s Pride Month and luckily for corporations, the Ukrainian war has got a little bit boring (sarcasm), meaning they are able to send their Ukrainian flags to the dry cleaners for a month and add a Pride flag to their logos instead.
However, it seems the ink has run out to change all of their logos.
Yes there is a cultural difference. And yes, there is the argument that this is how advertising works, by changing your marketing depending on the audience. But if they really want to support Pride they should change their profile pictures in the countries in which it matters. The countries where you end up in prison or dying for being homosexual. Have some courage and show your support there. And if in doing so, that would cause trouble or danger for the employees of that country, they should refuse to sell their products in that country.
They are only corporations after all, so if it would impact the businesses profit margins and they would prefer not to upset the apple cart in a particular country, then don’t virtue signal to the rest of us, they have no right.
The cosmetic, hypocrisy of the virtue signallers means nothing fundamentally changes, except for a few more fellow virtue signallers, receive the virtue signal, buy a few more of the virtue signallers’ products and the virtue signalling corporations make more money.
Not only do these virtue signalling games change nothing for the cause they are virtue signalling about, they actually have knock-on impacts for others.
Take for example, climate change virtue signalling. The companies claim to be net zero whilst ignoring what their directors and employees do in private. Good news, we’ve increased the costs for you the consumer by replacing all our plastic straws and printing all our ‘late payment’ letters on paper fashioned from elephant dung. We’ve saved the world! Just don’t tell them about the eighth foreign holiday we’ve all had this year, paid for by ramping up prices and increasing profits. We love climate change!
And this virtue signalling tends to hit the poorest the most. The ones who have no control over it but suffer the hardest. It increases their energy prices, it means all their bills go up, and they were barely contributing to the problem in the first place. All whilst the virtue signallers are barely impacted at all, if ever. In fact, the virtue signallers always seem to do better out of it. And all whilst the problems, the virtue signallers are virtue signalling about, don’t change one bit.

Not being on social media doesn’t enable me to virtue signal very much so as a white hetero man, during Pride month I just remind myself daily what a stinking piece of shit of a person I am and how I and my kind are ruining it for everyone else. It is similar to virtue signalling because nothing changes. But I like to think I’m doing my part.
As a straight white male, I realise now that it is incumbent upon me to cause as much (minor) mischief as possible.
So if people do actually mention the rise in heart attacks and strokes, or comment upon the rise in hepatitis and moneypox, it behoves me to just say "it's almost as though people have been injected with something".
I work for a company that “produces” frivolous digital output. They are all about “cutting emissions”. I’m timing my retirement around making the suggestion that they could cut their “emissions” to zero by shutting down the company, and if the planet were in so much danger, that would be the only responsible course of action, otherwise their brand is forever a symbol of profit before planet.
But profit IS good. The problem is two-fold: 1) The mis-apprehension by agents of supply/production of what is in demand, which leads to unnecessary costs which reduce profits, and 2) the demanders of idiotic things like zero profits, and equity, etc.
Right, of course profit is what powers the modern economy. But companies should then admit that “the planet” is a secondary concern for them at most, with profit being first. And then they should stop being hypocrites with their demands for others to sacrifice their profits (or way of life) on the altar of Gaia.
Yes, this virtue signalling stuff is about trying to shift the Judeo-Christian-Islamic principle based world we have come from - to a Gaia, Satanic, lies are truth too, world - in which there is no criteria for clearly defining what is WRONG and what is RIGHT. We had been allotted two weeks to get the job done. Silly me thought that meant that if we was done sooner we'd get either a pay raise, or the remaining days off.
That was an eye-opener to silly little me, that we' just get more work and maybe they'd use it as an excuse to sack one or two guys instead.
I then made the same mistake again for a private employer, being told in no uncertain terms that finishing early looks bad to the customer because it makes them think they overpaid my boss.

Our company has a division for equality. Last time they bring croissant and coffee in the morning. That's it. Many people pointed out how stupid to talk about sexual preferences in the work. I completely agreed but I told them that for me is more upsetting that these people are paid to do this rubbish. This is the real scandal.

Great meme, The virtue signal has been received. 😄 You make a good point, I hadn't thought about whether these companies would display gay pride symbols in countries where homosexuality is illegal. When I was a young gay person 25 years ago, it did feel good to have the company's support gay pride through marketing. There was a different environment back then compared to today, and it meant a little more to gay people than just a virtue signal.
Virtue signaling vs. Protest has never been more clear. They do not care to change the world, but to appear to agree with change that has already taken place.
