It’s Pride Month and luckily for corporations, the Ukrainian war has got a little bit boring (sarcasm), meaning they are able to send their Ukrainian flags to the dry cleaners for a month and add a Pride flag to their logos instead.
However, it seems the ink has run out to change all of their logos.
Yes there is a cultural difference. And yes, there is the argument that this is how advertising works, by changing your marketing depending on the audience. But if they really want to support Pride they should change their profile pictures in the countries in which it matters. The countries where you end up in prison or dying for being homosexual. Have some courage and show your support there. And if in doing so, that would cause trouble or danger for the employees of that country, they should refuse to sell their products in that country.
They are only corporations after all, so if it would impact the businesses profit margins and they would prefer not to upset the apple cart in a particular country, then don’t virtue signal to the rest of us, they have no right.
The cosmetic, hypocrisy of the virtue signallers means nothing fundamentally changes, except for a few more fellow virtue signallers, receive the virtue signal, buy a few more of the virtue signallers’ products and the virtue signalling corporations make more money.
Not only do these virtue signalling games change nothing for the cause they are virtue signalling about, they actually have knock-on impacts for others.
Take for example, climate change virtue signalling. The companies claim to be net zero whilst ignoring what their directors and employees do in private. Good news, we’ve increased the costs for you the consumer by replacing all our plastic straws and printing all our ‘late payment’ letters on paper fashioned from elephant dung. We’ve saved the world! Just don’t tell them about the eighth foreign holiday we’ve all had this year, paid for by ramping up prices and increasing profits. We love climate change!
And this virtue signalling tends to hit the poorest the most. The ones who have no control over it but suffer the hardest. It increases their energy prices, it means all their bills go up, and they were barely contributing to the problem in the first place. All whilst the virtue signallers are barely impacted at all, if ever. In fact, the virtue signallers always seem to do better out of it. And all whilst the problems, the virtue signallers are virtue signalling about, don’t change one bit.

Not being on social media doesn’t enable me to virtue signal very much so as a white hetero man, during Pride month I just remind myself daily what a stinking piece of shit of a person I am and how I and my kind are ruining it for everyone else. It is similar to virtue signalling because nothing changes. But I like to think I’m doing my part.
I work for a company that “produces” frivolous digital output. They are all about “cutting emissions”. I’m timing my retirement around making the suggestion that they could cut their “emissions” to zero by shutting down the company, and if the planet were in so much danger, that would be the only responsible course of action, otherwise their brand is forever a symbol of profit before planet.
I have always found it interesting how elements of BWM, Mercedes and Volkswagen were cogs in the Nazi Machine, and they get a pass. As a matter of fact, at least 2 of those brands are quite popular with members of the Jewish community.
And yet America, as a whole, and despite the fact that we fought a war to end it and many of it citizens’ ancestors weren’t even here, is still blamed for slavery.
I’m waiting for the inevitable outbreak of monkey pox in the week following whatever pride event takes place. Oh joy. Gays from around the world can fly in (cuz vaxxed!), yet I am unable to board neither plane nor train??

The virtue signalling is connected with toxic narcissism. Toxic Narcissism has been selected for in our times through social media, glam & dishonest plastic media including advertising and many of the arts. All these "good burghers" crowing about their rescue dogs, their LGBTQ hipness, & climate change hypocrisy, their masks and vaccinations - even militant or extreme veganism in some. In their anxious need to please, to impress is with their goodness - we glimpse the fear, the insecurity that they don't really measure up. Research Toxic narcissism - amazing how it connects up with all this.
Just one day after Ukraine’s neo-Nazi Azov Battalion announced they will drop the wolfsangel insignia from their patches, Western mainstream media began hyping a “unicorn LGBTQ” patch that is now being worn by Ukraine’s “LGBTQ soldiers” as they “head for war.”
According to mainstream media reports, Ukraine’s neo-Nazis dropped the wolfsangel from their patches because it was being “exploited by Russian propaganda.” (Yes, that’s right. Because it was being exploited by Russia, not because it was a symbol of their twisted Nazi ideology.)
All levels of government(Federal, State, Local) in the US account for roughly 40% of GDP. That is over double what it was 45 years ago. At the end of the day this is the only statistic that really matters. What it means, among other things, is that “government” has become, figuratively but with very literal implications, the elephant in every Board Room as well as living room. Europeans became accustomed to this much earlier than Americans, and in Europe it was never, until recently, about tearing things down. Now it is. The new public-private cabal that we see as the emerging Dictatorship of our planet was a planned phenomenon, and now that it has arrived we can all see both the results and the implications, if we are paying attention. Pride colors on company logos are virtue signalling, but the question is virtue signalling to whom? The answer is to government, the largest customer for many of them, and the largest influencer of rewards and promotions for all of those in charge in the private sector.
Our company has a division for equality. Last time they bring croissant and coffee in the morning. That's it. Many people pointed out how stupid to talk about sexual preferences in the work. I completely agreed but I told them that for me is more upsetting that these people are paid to do this rubbish. This is the real scandal.

When I was a young gay person 25 years ago, it did feel good to have the company's support gay pride through marketing. There was a different environment back then compared to today, and it meant a little more to gay people than just a virtue signal.
