Suspected Swiss Side Effects to the MRNA Vaccines

We are constantly told that the vaccines are incredibly safe but a report of suspected adverse reactions from Switzerland and Liechtenstein (S&L) say otherwise.

S&L have fully vaccinated 68% of their countries, with 32% having a booster vaccination. This means, in total, 12,843,410 vaccine doses have been administered in to 5,795,401 people.

Of those 5.8 million people, there have been 10,842 reported adverse reactions which equates to 0.19% of all people vaccinated or just under 2 reactions in every 1,000. Some of those reactions may have been the same person having a reaction after each dose but it is still a lot of reactions.

Now maybe these reactions are just mild, such as a sore arm or headache? Luckily, the data is broken down for us and of those 10,842 adverse reactions 3,927 (36%) are classified as serious.

Serious adverse vaccination reactions are those that are fatal or life-threatening, require hospitalisation or the extension of hospitalisation, lead to permanent or serious disability or incapacity or manifest in a congenital malformation/birth defect. They also include reactions that are judged to be medically important because they acutely endanger patients or require treatment to prevent a serious outcome. So quite serious then.

3,927 side effects out of 5.8 million people equates to 0.07% or 0.7 in every 1,000 people vaccinated. The percentage number might not sound a lot but in small countries such as S&L, 3,927 people suffering serious side effects is a lot, especially with a vaccine that is meant to be incredibly safe and who’s safety record we cannot question. Especially, when it has been widely reported that adverse reactions are under reported. For comparison, one of the CDC’s biggest concern with the flu vaccine is incidents of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). The risk of GBS after the flu shot is 1-2 per million so 700 per million serious side effects in this report is a lot.

After the investigations into myocarditis in males, you might think that there would be more side effects in men but in fact they only account for a third of the total.

There is a whole list of different reactions, but out of all them, the most common organs that are affected are (in order)

• Nervous system disorders (5,441)

• Musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders (3,509)

• Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders (2,445)

• Gastrointestinal disorders (2,378)

• Infections and infestations (1,259)

• Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders (1,398)

• Cardiac disorders (903)

• Reproductive system and breast disorders (796)

• Vascular disorders (631)

• Psychiatric disorders (507)

• Eye, ear and labyrinth disorders (506)

• Blood and lymphatic system disorders (351)

• Immune system disorders (120)

As with VAERS (US) and the Yellow Card system (UK), these adverse reactions are self reported. This is often used to dismiss these reports as being placed there by anti-vaxxers. However, we know that in this system at least 50% of the reports are very likely to be accurate as 49.5% of them are submitted by medical professionals.

There was a big jump in reports between July and October as can be seen in the chart below.

What is concerning about that is when looking at the heat map below, to try and establish where the reports were coming from, these are likely to be first and second doses is under 60 year olds.

The silence is deafening over adverse reactions. These new MRNA vaccines may be the answer for some people but everyone should have their own risk profile discussed. As an example, for a youngish, healthyish person, they should be told your risk of catching and being admitted to hospital with COVID-19 is 1 in 2,532, your risk of dying from COVID-19 is 1 in 200,000 but your risk of a serious adverse reaction from having the vaccine is 1 in 1,476. Then we could all be adults, make up our own minds and then be left alone to suffer whatever fate brings for us.
