A concerning new pre-print from the Microbiology department at the University of Alabama and published in Cell, looked at the skewed fate and haematopoiesis of CD34+ HSPCs in Umbilical Cord Blood Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Umbilical cord blood is highly enriched with hematopoietic stem progenitor cells (HSPCs) as identified by the surface expression of CD34 molecules. These are essential for the maintenance of the bone marrow and blood systems.
HSPCs have been widely used for various therapeutic and research purposes such as bone marrow transplants.
HSPCs are also responsible for repairing damage to the body and producing blood and immune cells. They can respond to infection and inflammation and therefore fine-tune the innate immune response.
To put it simply, these stem cells are extremely important and play a crucial role in the development of a baby’s immune system.
The study looked at both natural infection with Covid and the immune response induced through mRNA vaccination. Whilst natural infection with SARS-CoV-2 also decreased HSPCs, they found the results after vaccination were far worse.
Throughout the paper, they often stress that their data indicates that BOTH natural infection and vaccination impair stem cells quantitatively and qualitatively, however, dig into the finer details and it is clear, vaccination is far worse.
Both parameters were inversely correlated to the term following the vaccination, though there was no significance difference by the positivity for IgGs against SARS-CoV-2 S and N proteins, indicating that these impacts on CD34+ cells were largely caused by the vaccination, in which the trends continued without recovering to baseline over the entire gestation period.
And equally concerning, the reduction in stem cells after vaccination seemed to continue at the same pace until it reached zero.
It certainly has a lot of doctors concerned.
But I guess we were in a pandemic, lots of people were dying and things had to be done at the Speed of Science to save humanity. Making people, especially pregnant women, grow spike protein in their cells, for who knows how long, can’t be that bad? Well we certainly didn’t know it would kill off stem cells anyway.
Whoopsie, yes we did. This study published in October 2020 found that exposure to the spike protein alone impacted stem cells and immune cells.
That these effects are induced by recombinant S protein alone and not the infectious viral particle suggests that simple exposure to SARS-CoV-2 may impact HSCs/HPCs and immune cells via S protein interactions with the cells, regardless of whether they can be infected. These data have implications for immune response to SARS-CoV-2 and for HCT.
Could this be the reason there are extremely high rates of RSV admissions in hospitals around the world? Could what is being blamed on an immunity debt due to lockdowns actually be being caused due to babies having weakened immune systems?
Let’s just hope that this pre-print got things wrong and the results from their analysis were a mistake. Otherwise, we’re in trouble.
