Another example of the BBC getting shown up for its hypocrisy.
This time, the BBC reporter is interviewing the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who has been serving since 2003 and used to be Prime Minister.
She questions the President on why the people in Azerbaijan don’t have free media and opposition which she has been told by independent sources. “Which independent sources?”, the President eloquently asks. “Many independent sources”, the journalist replies. The President laughs and accuses her of making up the stories.
The state controlled BBC journalist says “so, you are saying that the media is not under state control?”. The President says that Azerbaijan has a free media and a free internet. 80% of the country use the internet with no censorship, he claims. He says, the country has an opposition, NGOs, free political activity, free media and freedom of speech.
And then he sticks the knife in.
“If you raise this question, can I ask you one?”
How do you assess what happened to Mr. Assange, he asks. “Isn’t it a reflection of free media in your country?”
The BBC journalist uncomfortably says that she’s not here to talk about her country.
“No, let’s discuss. Let’s discuss”, the President insists.
He rhetorically asks how many years Assange has spent in the Ecuadorian embassy and for what. And where is he now, the President asks. “For journalistic activity you kept that person hostage, actually killing him morally and physically. You did it, not us. And now he is in prison”.
The President lectures the reporter by saying that she has no moral right to talk to him about free media when her country does these things.
And that is the problem, the hypocrisy of the West means we no longer have the moral right to judge other countries, however bad they are and whatever wrongdoings they get up to.
I don’t know about freedom of speech in Azerbaijan and it wouldn’t shock me to learn that there is none. Furthermore, I would still rather live in the West and criticise the government (for now anyway). But we no longer hold any moral superiority because, as the President points out, we do similar things to our own journalists.
And the sad thing is, most people at the BBC can’t even see the hypocrisy. They live in a world where locking up Assange is the right thing to do, no question. Wearing a mask when told to is the right thing to do, no question. Discriminating against the unvaccinated is the right thing to do for the greater good, no question.
But as responsible journalists they should be questioning. Unfortunately, they are not and the rest of the world is laughing at us. No longer can we tell them what to do, for not only are we militarily weaker than we used to be but now we are devoid of morals too.

EXACTLY! How can we lecture Russia about political prisoners while the 1/6 protestors remain jailed? How can we lecture China on free speech when we are spending millions of dollars on the Censorship Industrial Complex?

Look at the J6 prisoners. We no longer have the moral right to preach to any one any where in the world about freedom, democracy, the rule of law the constitution, free elections, any of it.

"Furthermore, I would still rather live in the West and criticise the government (for now anyway)."
That ship has sailed here in Trudeau's Kanuckistan. Just ask Dr. Jordan Peterson what happens when you criticize the Turd.
Or the Truckers in the Freedom convoy. Or the horse-trampled and beaten/tear gassed peaceful protesters. And Tamara Lich. And The Couts Crossing protesters, who are still being held in prison without a trial yet.
This video, which I produced for the Daniel Ellsberg tribute at the Whistleblower Summit last month, also includes a CTA at the end to help fulfill Dan’s dying wish by working to #FreeAssange:

Yup. The US and the UK and Australia pretty much (like entirely) lost all moral standing to look back at history and talk with horror about what happened in Germany beginning around a century ago, too.
That's not really enough of an answer though. How, for example, have Canadian parents been so cowed that they have not been able to prevent Kayla of the Bountiful Silicone Mammarians from being allowed to teach their children? While wearing his mammarians, I mean.
Oh, but it's ok now, he's been transferred to a Guelph area school this year. 🙄
But in response to your question:
Because, idiotically, most Canucks pride themselves on politeness, political correctness, manners and peacefulness. It's really shameful imo, and I'm not one of them.
Yes, I saw the news article (I'm shamefully addicted to the Daily Mail online).
But this is really the horror of our times, that in all Western countries parents have without more than a bit of sad whining allowed the authorities to destroy their children.

Arrogance breads denial and the West has past the point of embarrassment into pathetic. The assumption the West is untouchable seems pervasive among the elite creating a very dangerous path for consensus among the rest of the world against not just the elite but all of us too. TNE does an excellent job exposing our dilemma but as one so called elite financial guru recently said, “we are navigating by the stars under cloudy sky’s”. Very few outside independent media will know this story or anything else Big Brother doesn’t want them to know.

I love it, not because I know there's actual journalism in Azerbaijan, but because it's important to point out when journalism is under attack. Media and journalism are not the same thing, and having a free internet doesn't mean people have access to journalism.

The thing about the "Rules-Based Order" is, it very much depends who makes the Rules?
ROW is sick of the hypocrisy and sick of weaponized currencies and sanctions. And this time is not only determined to change the world Order to a fairer, Multiolar system, but also has the Plan and the resources to do so. The days of Western rape and pillage of natural resources (using one-way investment deals and futures markets) will soon be over.
And the Western Globalists latest scam of "Climate Change" will ensure that the news BRICS+ group will have an advatagen going forward via access to cheap energy using fossil fules (of which the Block controls 80% of global supply) will be further leveraged against the West to ensure far higher rates of economic growth which, in turn, will accelerate the rate of change.
And the irony of all of this is that the West has brought this on itself through greed and poor strategic ploicy decisions made in the best interests of the Globalist "elite" not in the best interests of we the people.

"... we no longer have the moral right to judge other countries..."
"We" never had that right in the first place, not any more than any other civilisation.
What we had and could retake, is the right, duty and obligation to criticise, censure and sanction outsiders who come to our nations and do not acquiesce to and show respect for our way(s) of life.
Criticise foreigners because their ways are heathen and horrid, certainly, but not from some illusionary-delusionary moral high ground; simply for being different from us and abhorrent to us is plenty enough.

The last line pretty much sums up where we are and that is a very sad state of affairs. Watching our country go down the drain in real time is painful.

Thank you for this we can't have enough push back to US assault on Julian Assange & free speech!
Spectacular commentary. Thank you and thank you to the gov’t official of Azerbaijan for pointing out to the state controlled bbc reporter the reality!

Thanks for posting.
Other countries seem to have the measure of us now.
And the Assange scandal tells the world everything they need to know about us, America and Australia.
And Kanuckistan
NE - "And the sad thing is, most people at the BBC can’t even see the hypocrisy."
The hypocrisy and deceit is strong with this group.
Daammnnn. This is what the slang “burned” was invented for. Bravo.
For those who would like concrete action steps on how to help Assange, I include a list at the end of this post:

We haven’t been the “Good Guys” in a very long time.
Indeed. Who shall cast the first stone.

Us too, up here.
When you guys figure out what happened to you, let me know. We need to find a single word for "baffled and appalled."
I'll tell ya what happened. Klaus Analschwab *penetrated* Justin Trudeau and 80% of the politicians here. 😒
That's not really enough of an answer though. How, for example, have Canadian parents been so cowed that they have not been able to prevent Kayla of the Bountiful Silicone Mammarians from being allowed to teach their children? While wearing his mammarians, I mean.
Lol...ya mean Tits Magee?

Good article. We need more people like Ilham Aliyev to stand up against the hypocrisy of the West!!

Devoid of morals too... indeed 😔
Let's Talk About Julian Assange??? What does this have to do with Julian Assange?
Absolutely So sad about the U.S., the country in which I used to be proud to be a citizen. We've been sold down the river and never knew. I do now.
This is a fallacy for sure. "my country is bad but look your's also so end of discussion!"
Justin Trudeau's admiration of China comes to mind.
The prez here is absolutey right.
