Latest Covid Smoking Gun is Old News

EcoHealth Alliance's Project DEFUSE Proposal

A number of mainstream newspapers have been reporting on the latest Freedom of Information documents showing Gain of Function Proposals submitted in 2018.

However, as one of my readers commented, the majority of this is old news. I reported on this almost two years ago and my article from then is reproduced below.

This should not undermine the excellent work undertaken by US Right To Know to obtain these documents. Their newly obtained documents add some interesting context to the information we already knew. Whilst the documents themselves are not new, the versions of them are and so include comments from Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance and Ralph Baric from the University of North Carolina.

There is still a lot we don’t know as the latest documents include pages and pages which are blacked out and redacted. However, some of the new context includes comments from Peter Daszak showing that he intended to use the Wuhan Institute of Virology for much of the Gain of Function work but that he wouldn’t tell DARPA about this in the proposal, so as to make them more “comfortable”.

Other comments also indicate that Daszak wanted to “downplay the non-US focus of this proposal”. As a result, he wasn’t planning to include Chinese resumes with the proposal as he didn’t want DARPA to see this as a negative.

In one of Ralph Baric’s comments he says that “In the US, these recombinant SARS CoV are studied under BSL3 [Bio Safety Lab 3], not BSL2…In China, might be growin these virus under bsl2. US reseachers will likely freak out”.

He was clearly concerned about the level of Bio Safety Labs in which the Gain of Function work would be undertaken in China. However, Daszak was selling the drop in safety standards to DARPA as “highly cost-effective”.

EcoHealth Alliance have responded to these latest revelations by saying that the proposal was rejected for funding and the work was never done. Whilst we know this is correct, there is no way to know whether the work was carried out under different proposals. If, however, Baric or someone in Wuhan decided to go ahead with these experiments alone I think they would have been thrown under a bus at the very start of the pandemic. The fact that they were protected indicates that US money was somehow involved and it needed to be covered up.

A summary of the latest damning evidence

Executive summary (according to the documents):

• In 2018 DARPA invited proposals for solutions to pre-empt “Disease X”;

• EcoHealth Alliance submitted a proposal, called Project DEFUSE;

• The proposal was to discover which bat coronaviruses were most dangerous to humans, create a chimera of these viruses, deattenuate the chimera to create a vaccine and administer the vaccine to bats through injection, food and aerosols;

• DARPA rejected the proposal due to Gain of Function safety concerns;

• NAIAD, under the direction of Fauci, agreed to the proposal and it went ahead.

A few months ago, unverified reports, which might explain the origins of Covid, leaked on the internet. In the last few days Project Veritas released a separate report which seems to confirm the authenticity of the first report. This verifying report appears to have been sent to the Inspector General of the Department of Defense from US Marine Corp Major, Joseph Murphy, a former member of DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency).

Now this may all be some Q-Anon conspiracy double bluffing, but the level of detail and nature of the documents suggests otherwise. As with everything, I would like to know why these documents have been sat on for so long and why they have suddenly found their way in to the public domain before I make a final judgement, but they are very convincing.

The documents begin on 19 January 2018. DARPA produced a Broad Agency Announcement called PREventing EMerging Pathogenic Threats (PREEMPT). The Agency were looking for “innovative proposals to develop novel and scalable approaches to pre-empt viral spill over and transmission from animals or vectors into humans”. Throughout the decade there had been an increasing fear of Disease X making an appearance and causing the same devastation as the Spanish flu. Was this because of the increased amount of Gain of Function (GoF) work being undertaken or a genuine zoonotic threat?

DARPA were particularly worried about the military. They stated that “military forces are deployed to remote locations around the globe, often in areas where endemic and emerging diseases are prevalent…..Emerging infectious diseases, for which few medical countermeasures are available, represent a major threat to the warfighter and national security and could have devastating impacts on U.S. public health.” They continued with “the PREEMPT program aims to develop new tools and models to quantify the likelihood of a virus quasispecies (QS) to jump from an animal host into humans. In parallel, PREEMPT seeks to develop and validate new scalable technologies that prevent transmission of viral pathogens in wild reservoirs and/or mosquito vectors to humans or to bridge animals that serve as intermediary hosts prior to virus jump into humans”.

An organisation called EcoHealth Alliance responded to the call with a proposal they called “Project DEFUSE: Defusing the Threat of Bat-borne Coronaviruses”. Other members of the team included the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and the University of North Carolina (UNC). The proposal requested $14,209,245 to undertake the project and was submitted by Dr. Peter Daszak.

Now you may have heard of Peter Daszak before. He is always interviewed on TV shows connected with pandemics, but more interestingly, he was a key signatory (along with Christian Drosten and Jeremy Farrar) (and possibly penned the letter) in The Lancet in February 2020, strongly condemning conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.

The proposal was to intensively sample bats at sites which were identified as high spill over risk for SARSr-CoVs. They would then sequence their spike proteins, reverse engineer them to conduct binding assays and insert them in to bat SARSr-CoV backbones. These would then be used to infect humanised mice and assess the capacity for them to cause SARS-like disease. Bat SARSr-CoV backbones were to be used as these were exempt from dual-use and GoF concerns.

The data collected was to be used to create a prototype app for warfighters to “identify the likelihood of bats harboring dangerous viral pathogens at any site across Asia”. Furthermore, they would start “targeted immune boosting, in which [they would] inoculate bats with novel chimeric polyvalent recombinant spike proteins” to “enhance their adaptive immune memory against specific high-risk viruses”. To inoculate the bats they were going to use a novel aerosolization system, transdermal nanoparticle application and edible adhesive gels. This was all to prevent a SARS-CoV pandemic!

In lay mans speak, they were proposing to find bats with viruses that could potentially infect humans. They would test those viruses on humanised mice to determine which ones would were most pathogenic and cause severe disease in humans. (Humanised mice are those which have been genetically modified to express the ACE2 protein. SARS-CoV-2 binds to ACE2 to enable entry into host cells and simultaneously prevents it from performing its normal function - regulating blood pressure, wound healing and inflammation.) The viruses which caused severe disease in the humanised mice were then to be collated into a chimera which would be attenuated into a live vaccine. The vaccine would then be given to the bats in the hope that it would fight off the viruses most likely to jump to and cause disease in humans.

This proposal was rejected by DARPA on a number of grounds including that it potentially involved GoF even though it barely mentioned or assessed the risks of GoF. Furthermore, the proposal barely addressed, legal, ethical or social issues.

The report claiming to be from Major Murphy says that after rejection from DARPA, the proposal was settled with NIH/NIAID and the work took place at the WIV and at several sites in the US, until it was shut down in April 2020.

Major Murphy, in his introductory letter, says that he is unsure “whether the significance of what [he] communicated is understood by those that received the report in August 2021. Decisions with regard to the vaccines do not appear to be informed by analysis of the documents….this situation meets no-go or abort criteria with regards to the vaccines until the toxicity of the spike protein can be investigated.”

His report states that “SARS-CoV-2’s form as it emerged is likely as a precursor, deliberately virulent, humanized recombinant SARSr-CoV that was to be reverse engineered into a live attenuated SARSr-CoV bat vaccine”.

He says that the reports, linked to above was “placed along with other proposal documents in the PREEMPT folder on the DARPA Biological Technologies Office JWICS (top secret) share drive”. However, “this folder was empty for a year. The file, completely unmarked with classification or distribution data, were placed in this folder in July 2021, which conspicuously aligns with media reporting, [his] probing, and Senator Paul’s inquiry into NIH/NIAID gain-of-function programs. The unmarked nature combined with the timing signals that the documents were being hidden”.

The Major says “SARS-CoV-2…is a synthetic spike protein chimera engineered to attach to human ACE2 receptors and inserted into a recombinant bat SARSr-CoV backbone. It is likely a live vaccine not yet engineered to a more attenuated state…It leaked and spread rapidly because it was aerosolized so it could efficiently infect bats in caves…The reason the disease is so confusing is because it is less a virus than it is engineered spike proteins hitch-hiking a ride on a SARSr-CoV quasispecies swarm. The closer it is to the final live attenuated form, the more likely that is has been deattenuating since initial escape in August 2019.”

What he means by this is that the scientists were selecting the viruses that caused the worst disease in humans to create the chimera for the bat vaccine. Probably along the pathogenicity and virulence of SARS or MERS. The fact that SARS-CoV-2 has a much lower Infection Fatality Ratio (IFR) could indicate that it is close to its final attenuated form. Therefore, if it deattenuates back to its previous peak fitness, it will become more deadly.

Fortunately, he says that “because of its (now) known nature, the…illness is readily resolved with early treatment that inhibits the viral replication that spreads the spike proteins around the body (which induce a harmful overactive immune response as the body tries to clear the spike from the ACE2 receptors). For instance, Ivermectin…[and] hydroxychloriquine [which] is identified in the proposal as a SARSr-CoV inhibitor".

The report makes clear that the “mRNA vaccines work poorly because they are synthetic replications of the already-synthetic…spike proteins and possess no other epitopes. The mRNA instructs the cells to produce synthetic copies of the…spike protein directly into the bloodstream, wherein they spread and produce the same ACE2 storm that the recombinant vaccine does…The vaccine recipient has no defense against the bloodstream entry, but their nose protects them from the recombinant spike protein quasispecies during “natural infection” (better termed as aerosolized inoculation).”

“The nature of using a spike protein vaccine with one epitope against a spike protein vaccine with a quasispecies may explain the unusual (and potentially detrimental) antibody response amongst the vaccinated to the new COVID variants. Fundamentally, the knowledge the proposal provides signals that the risk of Antibody Dependent Enhancement (ADE) from vaccination should be evaluated with high priority”.

He continues, saying “the potential for [SARS-CoV-2] to deattenuate requires immediate attention. Live vaccines have been found to deattentuate in the past. If this is the case with [SARS-CoV-2], then the mass vaccination campaign actually performs an accelerated gain-of-function for it….Vaccinating humans against it actually gains its function back towards a more deattenuated human-susceptible form…The spike protein effect on ACE2 receptors exacerbates the harmfulness in accordance with age and comorbidity. The nature of SARSr-CoV-WIV’s deattenuation will also indicate future virulence, though knowing its nature at last neutralizes the threat as effective treatments can be applied with confidence.

Until the report from the Major is verified it should be viewed with suspicion. However, it, along with the report from DARPA and EcoHealth should have been thoroughly scrutinised in the MSM by now. It is probably one of the most important documents over the past few years but yet I have not heard a peep on TV about it.

There needs to be some serious discussion over whether GoF work is ever appropriate (or anything similar to GoF), even if it has the potential to prevent a future pandemic. Maybe it is, but it should be a public debate, not one undertaken in secret by mad scientists.

One might conclude that the EcoHealth alliance was justified and an unfortunate accident happened but since then why was this work supressed and people who talked about it condemned and called conspiracy theorists? If we had known from day one what we were dealing with, then anyone susceptible to COVID-19 or vaccine reactions would have been dealt with differently.

Furthermore, when did the leak occur, where did it occur and was it an experiment gone wrong or an accident? The vaccine work was being carried out at UNC and there are strong suspicions that it first leaked in the US. How did it get to Wuhan? Why was Event 201 setup? Was this a hastily arranged event or had it been planned for months? The start date of 18 October 2019 which coincidentally happens to be the same day the Military World Games started in Wuhan seems suspicious. So many questions that could start to be answered if people who claim to be journalists actually started to do some journalism.
